The LCDC is urging members and all concerned citizens to provide comments to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority about proposed rate increases for the Dulles Toll Road. MWAA has opened a public comment period about the rate hikes, which are largely intended to fund the construction of the Silver Line Metro Phase II to Dulles Airport and into Loudoun County.
“Loudoun Democrats are extremely concerned that the vast majority of the cost of Phase II will be borne by the users of the Toll Road,” stated LCDC Chair Evan Macbeth.
“During this year’s legislative session, Gov. McDonnell and Loudoun’s Republican representatives in the General Assembly had the opportunity to support significant additional state funding to keep tolls down,” Macbeth noted, “They failed to do so and as a result, next year Loudoun commuters will be faced with skyrocketing tolls on the Dulles Toll Road.”
“That is completely unacceptable, and we are pleased that the public can finally have its say.”
Under the toll rate proposal, the combined main plaza and ramp tolls, presently $2.25 for 2-axle vehicles, would increase to $2.75 in 2013, $3.50 in 2014, and $4.50 in 2015.
Public comments may be submitted online (http://www.mwaa.com/tollroad/toll.htm) or through the mail until September 16, or in person at one of three upcoming public hearings:
