The Transportation and Land Use Committee will hold a meeting regarding the following issues: What can we do about through-traffic? How long will the Route 7 improvements make traffic conditions better? What can be done to improve the Leesburg Bypass during peak traffic? How can we slow traffic through our small towns? What can bus and/or rail transit do to ease future congestion?
The Loudoun Countywide Transportation Plan is being updated to answer these and many other questions about Loudoun’s future transportation system. The plan update will address a variety of planning, growth, and transportation issues in the County, such as:
■Transportation and land use plans of surrounding communities that affect Loudoun County
■Recent and proposed comprehensive plan amendments that could alter future traffic levels
■The need to look at unique corridor transportation issues including congestion, current and projected future travel patterns, feasibility and alternatives to increase capacity, and ways to reduce travel demand such as transit, carpooling, telecommuting and alternative land use patterns.

The Democratic Party of Virginia Central Committee will hold a meeting in Charlottesville. There will be a special election for the positions of Vice Chair for Organization (First Vice Chair) and Vice Chair for Finance. The First Vice Chair position is a very important office that involves helping local Democratic Committees recruit, organize, and implement campaign activities, and training is a critical part of that portfolio. The First Vice Chair also presides at meetings in the absence of the Chair and can serve as acting chair. Under DNC rules, the State Party Chair and highest ranking officer of opposite gender serve on the DNC, so is the new First Vice Chair is female, she would get a DNC seat (so long as the Chair is male).
The two candidates for 1st Vice Chair are Susan Mariner and Gaylene Kanoyton. John Bowerbank is seeking the Finance job.
