Recall effort is just the latest in a series of anti-democracy attempts
LEESBURG, VA – Operating from a playbook written by January 6 insurrectionists, a Fairfax-based dark money group has announced that they will attempt to overturn the election of Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj, who won a clear mandate from voters in 2019.
“We’ve seen a number of conservative groups that have targeted the offices they failed to win at the ballot box with divisive and partisan recall efforts. This attempt to invalidate the votes of over 57,000 Loudoun residents is disgraceful,” said LCDC Chair Lissa Savaglio.
“Over the past six months, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Loudoun County, Buta Biberaj, has made impressive improvements to her office. Ms. Biberaj has not only signed the County Cooperative Agreement, but she has also invited senior county staff to assist in personnel and organizational matters. In addition, Ms. Biberaj is holding regular meetings with victim groups. Finally, she continues to add valuable staff to her team. Ms. Biberaj has turned suggestions from the Board of Supervisors into action items. She has my full support as she continues to make changes that will benefit all citizens of Loudoun County,” stated Chair Phyllis Randall of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
The group holding the press conference said it intends to bring in individuals from outside Loudoun County to help their efforts to remove our duly elected Commonwealth’s Attorney. The Loudoun County Democratic Committee has worked for decades to organize communities to win an unprecedented streak of elections. We will ensure that power-hungry outside groups cannot undo that with cheap signs and hand-picked soundbites.
