Loudoun Dems Rally Behind County Office of Elections, Vastly Outnumber “Big Lie” Conspiracy Proponents
Loudoun Democrats appeared in force at the May meeting of the Loudoun County Electoral Board on Thursday, May 19, to express their confidence in the Board, Registrar Judith (“Judy”) Brown, and her staff at the Office of Elections.
The 18 speakers – just two questioning the Board’s integrity – included Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, Supervisor Juli Briskman, Supervisor Mike Turner, Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk, and Leesburg Town Councilman Neil Steinberg (view the WUSA9 report here).
More than a dozen Loudoun County Democratic Committee members spoke in support of Brown and her staff to call out the disruptive tactics of a local group of Big Lie proponents, calling themselves the Loudoun Committee of Safety and seeking to rupture public confidence in our elections.
In a revealing display of the Big Lie mindset, Thomas Kasperek, who sported a red MAGA hat and was one of two speakers complaining about the Board, refused several requests to speak with the media. While insisting that the white looseleaf binder he held contained “evidence … not hearsay” of election irregularities, he refused to reveal its contents (see NBC4 report here).
Loudoun’s home-grown Stop-the-Steal campaign has pursued two battlelines. The immediate issue is Brown’s likely choice of a third-party vendor – one of a handful of professional election management companies in the United States – to oversee printing and mailing of absentee ballots.
Because there are no firms in Virginia doing this kind of work, the county is turning to K&H of Seattle, Washington, the same firm that reportedly delivered error-free results for Fairfax County, the largest county in the Commonwealth, in the 2021 election cycle.
Lissa Savaglio, Chair of the LCDC, observed that the Registrar’s staff “has strenuously examined this firm, consulted with other state authorities, and come away satisfied that K&H is up to the task.”
The second objective of the Stop-the-Steal campaign is an all-out reenactment of the Maricopa County debacle by conducting what they are calling a “full forensic audit” of Loudoun County’s 2020 and 2021 elections. So far, all they’ve offered is a set of vague “what ifs” and “maybes” to justify not only rummaging through our Election Office records and election equipment, but also seizing possession of the paper ballots for an unauthorized “citizens’” recount.
Neither a court, the Electoral Board, the State Department of Elections, nor any other elected body has requested or approved a recount of the results of Loudoun County’s past two elections – let alone a so-called “forensic audit.”
