Youngkin's Assault on Children and LGBTQ Community

Well, there he goes again: Glen Youngkin, that is, finding new ways to demonize children who are struggling to understand their world.

Youngkin’s lack of human compassion is not merely startling, it has risen to the level of cruelty, exercised in what seems a race to the bottom, a competition among several right-wing culture warriors – DeSantis, Abbott, and others – endeavoring to dominate Fox News.

On Friday, the Youngkin administration delivered a policy that would roll back LGBTQ rights and protections, seeking to erase the identities of transgender youth solely because he and his right-wing zealots refuse to believe facts documented by scientific evidence. It’s all very reminiscent of the mid-20th century conservative view that gay men and women were “choosing” an orientation.

"This is a vile and disgusting attack on vulnerable trans kids," said Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton. "Bullying children to score cheap political points is despicable. The Governor should be ashamed."

Youngkin’s “model policies”, due to take effect after a 30-day comment period, in late October, would require teachers to “out” trans students to parents, require students to adopt their gender of birth at school, deny trans students the right to go by a chosen name, and require legal adjudication by parents defending their child’s trans status.
