DANGEROUS ANTI-EDUCATION BILLS
Loaded handguns shouldn’t be permitted on airplanes where an errant gunshot could lead to tragedy. Right? The same can be said about bringing a gun into a school board meeting, where adults and student representatives gather. At a time when irritable conservative Cultural Warriors are getting arrested for bad behavior during school board meetings, it’s surely not the moment to lift long-standing restrictions on firearms. Despite the Bill of Rights, there are no “absolute liberties” in America and the Second Amendment is no exception, thus, most Americans – even gun owners – agree, there are some places where we simply should not be permitted to carry a gun. Yet, Republican members of the House of Delegates are proposing (HB 391) that their cadre of mean boys should be able to swagger their hardware wherever it suits them.
This Tuesday, in Richmond we are going to need as many people as possible to write in or speak (virtually) in opposition to proposed gun legislation as well as several other logic-defying measures affecting our children’s wellbeing and education. You can see the entire list of bills being addressed HERE.
Please SIGN UP HERE to speak remotely OR to write your comments to the Education K-12 Subcommittee meeting.
In addition to the irrational gun bill, Loudoun’s Republican Dave LaRock is proposing bills to defy science: “make it harder for local school boards to do mask mandates” (HB1036), which comes on the heels of a court ruling in favor of local school boards – NOT state officials – setting mask policies; and, jumping on the national far-right bandwagon seeking to advance ignorance in education, he is offering a bill to make sure that “teachers can’t teach divisive concepts” (HB787).
PLEASE make your voice heard by writing and/or speaking.
