Message from LCDC Chair About Campaign Literature Distribution
As Chair of the Loudoun County Democratic Committee (LCDC), I want to address the recent distribution of political materials at Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) back-to-school events this week and the concerns raised by some parents and community members about political information distribution at school events in general.
Sharing information about voting and candidates has been a part of back of school nights in Loudoun schools for a number of years. LCDC has always worked to ensure that our volunteers are informed of and respect the guidelines set forth by LCPS regarding the distribution of materials on school property. We have not been notified of any LCDC volunteers engaging in behavior that was disruptive or outside of LCPS guidelines. We encourage anyone who encounters activities that violate these guidelines to report them to school administrators.
The community members who have been reported to be acting in an aggressive manner and had to be removed by law enforcement were not Loudoun Democrats.
Many parents that we have met at the back-to-school events have expressed gratitude to us for providing the correct school calendar and voting information. Being informed about candidates and having access to voting information is of vital importance and directly affects our highly-rated public schools. LCDC is proud to provide this service to LCPS parents.
LCDC is committed to work collaboratively with all LCPS stakeholders to maintain a supportive and inclusive environment. We are staunch supporters of LCPS, and we uphold the standards set by our school district and strive to ensure political discourse is conducted respectfully.
